Anobium borer are generally in-flight between September/October through to March/April. This type of borer is the most destructive in the country. There are 5 varieties in NZ which cause damage to Kahikatea, Radiata Pine and Rimu. The female lays her eggs (100+) and they take up to 5x weeks to hatch. The larvae bore into the timber and then come close to the surface of the timber to pupate.
The life cycle of these beetles can take up to 4 years to complete. This presents a challenge for all urban pest controllers.
We recommend a complete approach in addressing this pest as opposed to multiple localised treatments. The challenge of course is treating the potentially unseen affected areas.
We measure annually the borer’s recession as the treatment progressively takes affect.
The treatment for borer needs to have an integrated approach with the assistance of an experienced licenced borer exterminator from Pest Free Otago.
