Spider Control

We often get asked about the variety of spiders that are causes of concern here in Otago.   Probably one of the main culprits would be the White Tailed spider.  It was introduced from Australia and has a growing reputation for its nasty bite, which people can react to.  They generally live outside and hunt web-building spiders, though if their habitats have been disturbed they will move temporarily, possibly indoors.  These spiders move slowly but deliberately and are easily identified by their white-tipped tail.   

In addition to that, the Katipō and Redback spiders are also venomous. Bites from both species are extremely rare, and there is a safe and effective anti-venom available.
